Transparendo Sewalong

Hi there! Just wanted to let you know that we have been working really hard behind the scenes to bring a FREE Transparendo sewalong for you and your sewing friends.

Who is we? Verena from einfach bunt Quilts and I have teamed up just for you. She will be corresponding mainly with German quilters and patchworkers here in Germany, while I will be concentrating more on the English speaking world internationally.

Transparendo Sewalong

What is the sewalong all about?

We love sewalongs and are all about the community. It makes us both so happy to see you all share your ideas and creativity with each other to grow our patchwork family. We wanted to get you all together to have some extra fun this fall after all those corona years of distress and disharmony. What better way than with an exciting, weekly sewalong with a modern, transparent quilt pattern with a free sewalong?!

That means, all you have to do to sew along is have the Transparendo book pattern. You can order online in my Etsy shop, order from Verena in her Etsy shop and pick up some new fabric too or order at your favorite quilt store or any store for that matter. If you shop doesn't stock it, they can order under the ISBN - 978-398255760-1. Order your copy today to get a head start and plan out your design.

There will also be a digital version of the book offered through Etsy. It will be available closer to the the starting date of the sewalong. Each week, a portion of the book will be mailed directly to your email in-box with more exciting blocks to complete.

Sewalong Schedule

Week for week, over a period of 15 weeks, you will be given an assignment. All you have to do is finish before the deadline and post on Instagram or send me (info@easypatchwork) a copy of the image preferrably 72 dpi with < 800 pixel resolution. From all of the photo entries that week, one random winner will be chosen. You can win more than once, too! Yes, you read that correctly!!

Here's the schedule:

Prizes

Yes, there will most certainly be prizes. We are still working on all of the logistics and sponsors, but we have some great prizes in store for you along the way.

At the end of the 15 weeks, you can enter your finished quilt top for the final prize -

A FULL VERSION OF EQ8 QUILT DESIGN SOFTWARE!

We are so excited about this too! The most generous folks at Electric Quilt Company were extremely kind to sponsor this most incredible software to one very lucky winner, INTERNATIONALLY!

If you are interested in purchasing the software, we can assist you with that as well with special discount code for participants. More about that later, though.

But don't forget, we have another prizes along the way. More importantly, don't forget about the community. We are very supportive of each other in this beautiful world of quilting and patchwork. We want you to be just as supportive. Visit each other websites, blogs and IG accounts. Help each other when asked. Show an interest. Be nice and respectful.

Fees

There are no registration fees for the sewalong! You do, however, need to have a copy of the book to finish the weekly assignments. You will need fabric to sew the quilt as well. You will not be allowed to enter a virtual finished quilt, even if you are sneaky enough to try. : ) It will have to be physical quilt blocks and finished quilt top for the assignments to be completed.

We would also like to you subscribe to our newsletters:

This way you can keep yourself right on track and know what's important. Learn all kinds of tips and tricks too along the way. You might even find a few extra freebies in those newsletters too. : )

cattinka's hasenbach challenge 2014

I am very fortunate to join up with a great group of ladies over at Cattinka's Blog for her annual Hasenbach Challenge. What is this challenge about? For those of us who like to sew in a virtual group, it allows you to sew a block from any of Claudia Hasenbach's patterns and display it at an ever growing gallery she posts the last day of the month. It is like walking into an art exhibit without leaving leaving your home!

Cattinka's Blogspot has grown this year and has an incredible amount of participants - 43. Can you believe that? I do not know how she manages with such a large number!? She cheers us on and makes sure we have our blocks finished by the end of the month. Thank you so much for your support and organizing the group! We couldn't do it without you, liebe Katrin!

I thought I would share three blocks with you that I have finished for this year's challenge. In the beginning, I wasn't sure what I wanted to make, so I found a nice landscape scene reminding me of the Carolina Fall I so deeply miss. It looks totally different since I put the borders on it. I think I will make it into a sofa pillow that will go great with my darker colored living room.

Then, Katrin nudged me along to help me find a complete wall hanging that was achievable. I am going with the Apfelernte or Apple Harvest and using the muted earth tones from the fabric collection above. They always make me feel warm and cozy inside. The blue is the wackiest color in it. Again, I miss that Carolina blue sky! I had to have some color!!

After I knock my green apple blocks out, then the reds will come more into play. I personally really like the wacky green apple here. It makes it come to life against the subdued colors and more interesting to look at. The apple tree above will get some french-knotted apples when I get around to it!

Oh, so many SAL/BOM this year. I bought some more plastic totes to get better organized. I also sorted out and refolded all of my fabric over the weekend. My husband thought I was crazy and asked if he go to his shop and sort out his screws. That was a good comparison, but I think I have more fabric. ;-)

Please come join us the last day of each month for a gallery showing of patchwork-artwork at Cattinka's Blogspot.

Happy patching and thank you for stopping by!

a simple striped bowl

Today I sewed together my third Sew Kitschy block featured as a free BOM from Quiet Play. This simple foundation BOM starting to become a real challenge for me, and it shouldn't. I think it is because I am torn about the fabrics. I totally love the turquoise and red of the layout and wanted to recreate it, BUT I decided that I was NOT going to buy more fabric just to sew it together. A girl has got to draw the line somewhere! According to my accountant, my fabric expenses could soon be frozen. What peeked my interest about this collection of blocks, was the fact that the wallpaper/background used large prints. This looks great, but is extremely hard to sew together without making a lot of templates and fussy cutting!

When I started this block, I went back to the original fabrics I had chosen; I did not have the bright turquoise blue planned that I used in the first two blocks. However, the use of an unexpected color always make the objects pop out. If I take it out, it won't be in tune with the original Sew Kitschy, but it would become unique. And that is what it should be for me...fun and unique. Take it and make it yours!

I am playing with the idea of removing the bright turquoise blue from the first two blocks. I will decide that later. Right now, I just want to have some fun sewing.

Here is my third block. It is a little less contrasty than the others without the bright turquoise. It almost looks pale! (Reminder to myself....don't concentrate on the individual block, but the entire whole.)

Thank you for dropping by and reading my blog! I simply love to hear what you have to say, so leave a comment or two!

Happy Sewing,
Karen

P.S...I removed the Mini Plus Challenge due to lack of interest - on both sides!
