2022 Fairy Duo - Leticia and Jolean

Hi there! I am really excited to share with your the newest set of easypatchwork Paper Doll Fairy, Leticia and Jolean. This collection of fairies is made with 16" foundation paper pieced figures, a great size to get into paper piecing and create a throw pillow for a special person in your life.

The 2022 fairy, Leticia, was just too cute not to have her sister, Jolean, join in the celebration this year. Each one has her own style. You can even mix the heads, bodices and dresses from both figures to create more if you wish.

Leticia - 2022 Fairy of Joy

Allow us to introduce, Leticia, the 2022 Fairy of Joy. She is an English fairy princess who would like to guide you through the new year. May you entrust her to show you the simpler things in life. She is straight-forward, and elegant. You could also envision her as a garden fairy, a strawberry fairy, or forest fairy with her cute acorn-shaped cap.

You can sew her with a variety of different colorways such as monochromatic (shown above) or even in a rainbow color schemed shown in the lower right corner. I truly love using the dark background on the fairies with their soft creamy, blush skin tone. If you wish to create more contrast, use a variety of values such as light, medium and dark for the figure to stand out. Get creative with different hair and wing colors. Create a whole family of different rainbow-colored fairies. More design ideas as well as a coloring sheet are found in the pattern as well as step-by-step directions with illustrations.

Jolean - 2022 Fairy of Inspiration

Sister to Leticia, Jolean is a dazzling fairy of inspiration. May her spunky character and love of life inspire you in your creative endeavours. She is slightly more challenging with her cute hair buns and layered dress. She is very proud to sport her fairy-tipped ears. Her plunging neckline shows her high self-confidence and love of her own body.

She is also sewn in a monochromatic color scheme with creamy, blush skin. There so many more options to color her though. Just take a look below. More designs in the pattern as well as a coloring sheet and step-by-step illustrations with explanations.

This sister duo can be purchased together to mix and match and make even more figures. Here are some more ideas. Have fun and explore new ways to create by skipping over sewing lines or adding your own.

If you wish to make one or both of the 2022 fairies, you can purchase them on Etsy for a limited discount until January 2, 2022. Discount is already applied in the store - no need for more coupons.

Fairy of Gratitude - Onoka

Hi there! Thanks for joining this very special post between X-Mas and the New Year! Wow! What a year 2020 has been! There have been so many ups and downs and downs and ups this year. And many of us are still struggling.

I admit, this year has been very hard me as well. In April we all thought we had COVID-19 but were already under lockdown self-quarantining and decided not get tested. Six months later, I allowed my blood to be tested for antibodies that tested neagtive.

Did we have it or did we not? It doesn't really matter anymore. Life is turned upside down. Interactions with friends, family and acquaintances has been extrememly limited this year. My business has suffered. My phsyical health and mental health has suffered. I know I am not alone in this boat, but it is really hard to see the postive. I've always tried to be open and honest about my feelings and life. Some may see it as a weekness, but there are others out there too struggling just as I am. When we open up about the truth, we might just be able to help each other.

Something that has always allowed me to refocus is to design. I decided to design another foundation pattern - a new 16" fairy to fit the collection and welcome a better new year 2021. This year, Onoka, the Japanese Fairy of Gratitude was created.

What am I grateful for?

I am grateful for so many things in life and wish I could express myself better sometimes. I am grateful for the friendships that I have. I am grateful for my home for my family for my knowledge. I am grateful for the generosity of friends, family, acquaintances and customers. I am thankful so many people are interested in my patterns and classes. I don't express it nearly enough! I am truly thankful and grateful for all of those things. What are you grateful for?

Since Onoka was not designed as a mix and match fairy to mix with Marissa, last year's fairy, I tried a different foundation construction method for her. She still has the y-seam, but the instructions on how to do this are in the pattern and are fully illustrated.

For those who are new to foundation piecing, the larger size of 16" rather than 12" is easier to work with although some of the pattern sections may seem too large.

The Enchanted Paper Dolls are 12" and completely interchangeable with mix and match segments.

The Fairy of Gratitude, Onoka cannot be mixed with segments from Marissa, the Fairy of Good Fortune. Onoka is taller and constructed through triangles rather than vertically. You can, however, still add, remove or change some of the lines on the foundation patterns to change the look of Onoka. I also constructed her to have the least amount of intersecting points to releave headaches. The fairy with the pink wings will be easier than the fairy with the purple wings to make.

Onoka would make a lovely pillow case. Just use 2" border strips to outline the block. Make a quilt sandwich, quilt and cut to 18 1/2" and your favorite pillow case tutorial to finish.

Use contrasting piping or binding for an extra, special touch.

Of course, you can make a quilt from just the one block, adding, changing and highlighting different segments of Onoka or even flipping the blocks by tracing the segments in reverse. The shown quilt below uses a 2" finished inner border and a 4" finished outer border. The quilt would measure 60" x 76" - a great quilt for a special girl in your life. Have fun exploring the different colorations.

If you want to mix Onoka and Marissa, this is a fun design you might like. This quilt uses a 2" finished inner border and no outer border, just accent binding. This quilt would finish at ~ 52" x 68".

Thank you so much for joining me. Hopefully you've been inspired to make something beautiful with one of these patterns You can purchase them in my pattern shop on Etsy.

You can make an oversized pillow for the angel in your life. This design uses the Sunkissed Cross blocks (found in the hardcopy only pattern) in the corners. Can you still recognize them with the change up in fabrics? The finished size of the pillow is ~ 22" x 22". Fabrics from Mystical Land by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics.

When I originally designed the 16", Marissa fairy, I thought about how you could integrate her into an arrangement with the 12 other 12" angels, fairies and princesses from the sew along. This design layout appealed to me the most. (Designed in EQ8, of course). I removed the Sunkissed Cross blocks in this design which brought Marissa into the forefront. Marissa is framed with a three finished borders of 1", 2" and 1". This would be a ~63" x 63" quilt.

Today, I was feeling a little creative, so I whipped up a virtual quilt with Marissa. The fabrics I chose for the mock up quilt are from the Midsommer collection from Pippa Shaw for Figo fabrics available now.

I used up the original layout with the 3" Sunkissed Cross blocks found in the original Enchanted Paper Dolls Pattern. Instead of a 3 x 4 grid and 12" blocks, I used a 3 x 3 grid with 16" blocks. This would have a 5" print border and 3/8" binding. The finished quilt size would be about 70" x 70".

For a 4 x 4 grid you would have a large sized quilt measuring ~ 92" x 92".

With a 2 x 3 grid you would get a large throw quilt measuring 54" x 73" (138 x 185cm).  This would be a great size for a single bed. You can always add a little more to the border (10" cut borders) as shown below for a 63" x 82" (160 x 208 cm) quilt.

Thank you for joining today. I hope I have sparked your creative interest to sew something beautiful. Please share you makes with us.
